auditory,visual,spatial,andlinguisticlearners.Studentsareamixtureofintrinsicandextrinsic
motivation.Studentsarealsodiverseintheirreligion,ethnicity,race,dress,gender,and
socioeconomicstatus.Inordertoteachadiversityofstudents,Iwillactasafacilitatoranda
guide.Iwillsethighexpectationsformystudentsandthenhelpthemtomeetthose
expectations.
Themajorityoftheassessmentsinmyclasswillbeformative.Studentswillbeassessed
basedoffindividualprogressthroughouttheyear.Assessmentwillbebasedonprogress
towardthestandardsthatdriveinstruction.Formativeassessmentswillbeusedtodrive
instructionsothatalltheneedsofstudentsaremet.
Inteachingmystudents,Iwanttocreatelifelonglearnerswhoareinspiredtoalways
seekknowledge.Inordertocreateengaginglessons,Iwillconnectmystudentslearningtotheir
cultureandinterests.Knowledgewillbeusedtoinspirestudentsanditisimportanttoteach
studentsnottofearknowledge.Studentsshouldalsoknowthathavetherighttolearn,andthat
noonecantakethatrightawayfromthem.Theyneedtohaveavoiceandnotbeafraidto
expressthemselves.Teacherscanencouragestudentstobecomelifelonglearnersbynever
makingthemfeeldumb,discriminatedagainst,orafraidtohaveavoice.
Asateacher,Iwanttolearnfrommystudentsandcreateforthemasafeplace.Iwill
beginbycultivatingasenseofmutualrespectbyshowingmystudentsthatItoomake
mistakes.IwillownuptoanymistakesImakeandlistentomystudentswhentheythinkIam
wrong.Iwillactasamentorandafacilitator,ratherthanthegiverof
all
knowledge.Iwill
rememberthatwhenonepersonteaches,twopeoplelearn.Iwantmystudentstofeelsafeand
comfortableinmyclassroomwithme.Iwantthemtofeelcomfortablebringingtheirproblemsto
meandcomingtomeforguidance.
