Dear Professor Criswell:

I am writing this letter to be able to apply for the position of Art Director or
Entertainment Editor for The University of Indianapoliss The Reflector. I
have the experience to be able to show leadership and I also have
experience in design. During this semester and my previous semester I have
been working on improving my graphics and also have published more
graphics in the recent issues. For the position of Entertainment Editor I am
able to go out and get information of activities going on around campus and
also activities going on around Indianapolis that will interest the students and
faculty on campus.
I have learned my leadership qualities from being the captain of my high
school soccer team, being my high schools editor for our newspaper, being a
soccer coach, and also being a head referee for a recreational soccer league.
My experience in design comes from being the editor for my high schools
newspaper. I was in charge of putting the stories together and making sure
everything flowed correctly. I am also capable of working in a group and
being able to communicate with others. My previous leadership roles have
prepared me to be able to take charge and also help others. I have also
learned when to ask for help when I need it and am not shy when it comes to
asking questions.
I think I would be a good addition to The Reflector staff because I want to be
able to work with a group of editors and get a feel of how a news staff works.
Being able to be part of The Reflector staff would allow me to know more
about the UIndy community. Next year, I will be a Residents Assistant and I
will be able to help create stories because I will have knowledge of the
activities going on around the community. Being a Residents Assistant will
allow me to learn new ways of being able to help out each member of the
staff and that will also help me help The Reflector staff.
Sincerely,

Melvin Mendez
