Na NA ‘Student Reflection — Looking back on the rotation: How have you grown as a nurse? Please explain and use specific examples. | was able to grow as 2 nurse by using the skills I leamed in class to communicate and assess pediatric patients. | listened to wheezing and rhonchi on many children that | only had experience with listening to online. | also listened to a patient after a breathing treatment and heard the improvements. | also grew as a nurse by giving a medication in the the clinical setting. had the opportunity to give Zofran PO to a child for nausea and vomiting. Before giving the medication | looked up the side effects and then had to calculate the dosage. This clinical gave me the opportunity to learn how a pediatric unit works and also how to be a pediatric RN. Do you have any continuing concerns about your performance? Please explain. No | think overall the experience was positive. Faculty Comments! Student Learning Goals (“if an item was identified as N or U, narrative comments are necessary to clarify student performance") Rachel spent both days working on the ER side of the unit (lack of inpatients). There, she was able to perform multiple thorough assessments and reassessments after treatments. She was able to identify the different advantageous breath sounds and note changes in patient's condition and report it appropriately. Rachel interacted well with both patients/families and staff, adjusting her approach for the developmental level the children. Rachel was ‘eager to learn new skills and performed them well. Medications were researched thoroughly and she was well prepared to administer them in a safe manner. Because of being in the ER, Rachel did not have the opportunity to chart in the computer. However, she did follow up on results of test being ordered (lab values, xray reports) and discussed the significance of these. She was very folved in group discussions of different diagnoses and the appropriate nursing care and patient education that she would provide.
