Individual presentation overview

Thesis: Piracy has been a constant since man has had the need to sail.
Slide 1: A history of Piracy from ancient times to modern day.
Not too much about piracy during the ancient times however there are
several documented records of pirate attacks on Roman ships.
Possibly the most well known time period of piracy was from 1650 to 1680
when the naval powers of the world hadn't had the man power or ships to
take care of the piracy problem in the Caribbean. These pirates where able to
be this successful during this time period due to the amount of wealth being
sent back to Europe as well as the lack of naval presence in the area.
Modern piracy is now located along the coasts of Africa and in Indonesia
where as previously stated there is a lack of naval presence to stop them
from raiding. However the Somali piracy has seen a decrease while the West
Coast of Africa has seen a increase in piracy. This is thought to be due to the
ease at which the cargo can be sold fast, compared to Somalia.
Slide 2: The tactics used by pirates
Pirates have used the same tactics throughout history. Pirates use small and
fast ships as it allows them to circle the target ship with ease as well as
elude the large ships used by naval forces. The use of fear is very important
as pirates want to have as little a fight as possible.
Slide 3: describes the most dangerous places for piracy
The West Coast of Africa, Somalia, and Indonesia are the most dangerous
places in the world for cargo ships.
Slide 4: lists the number of attacks in Indonesia and World Wide
