Detailed Outline

Kayla Roberts
1. Purpose of paper: To explain the correlation between international travel and
personal happiness
2. Thesis: Successful transportation and becoming involved/ immersed in the
culture of an international travel increases personal happiness
3. Subheading topic: Anticipation
a. Argument I
i. Describe specific evidence you will use to support argument 1 &
explain how argument 1 will help prove your thesis: booking,
packing. Diving deep into the piece of waiting for the trip will
show how the transportation and immersing piece can be helped
and prepared for.
b. Argument 2
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: Planning out and picturing how the trip will go
mentally will set expectations that then can be exceeded if
successful transportation and immersion is done positively.
4. Subheading topic: Transportation
a. Argument I: planes,
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: In planes, there is airport security and bag
checking that if all goes well it will lead to a very successful trip.
However, if this is to go wrong and bags are lost or one is taken
for a closer look by security, it can hold things up and flights can
be missed.
b. Argument II: ships
i. I will write about how positive trips to places on boats, yachts,
ships and relate it back to the different categories of happiness.
If these are successful and one does not get sea sick, it can lead
to a happy trip. For both planes and ships, in one article the
transportation is described as the necessary evil that one has
to go through in order to get to the destination.
5. Subheading topic: Experience
a. Explain different types
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: I will dive into different genres of travel: from crazy
adventures like skydiving and bungee jumping to relaxing or
walking through streets of new country. Setting the broad
spectrum will relate to my thesis because it will show the setup
for immersing.
b. How immersing is best
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: I will cite my sources that go in depth on why
immersing is best and this argument goes to say that immersing
is positive if the natives are friendly. One is able to share their

culture and learn from the natives in categories ranging from

food to dance.
6. Subheading topic: Recollection
a. Argument I- looking back (positives or more negatives)
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: Looking back one can either think of just the
destination and the experiences there, or they can remember
play by play in which they would think of the transportation. If
the transportation was successful, one will think positively of the
airline or ship and want to give it good ratings, but if it was bad
they may want to do the opposite or think about how it affected
their entire travel experience.
b. Argument II- living through it again
i. Describe specific evidence & explain how argument 2 will help
prove thesis: Living through it again one will remember the
conversations they had when immersed and the tastes and
dances they experienced and it can recreate those happy
feelings.
