Telecom from A to A

Category numb er 10 is intended to allow the theo retical max imum data rate of 14.4 Mbps,
perm itting basically the data rate that is achievable with rate 1/3 turbo codi ng and significant
punct uring, resu lting in the code rate close to 1. For cat egory 9, the max imum turboencodi ng bloc k size (from Release
99) has been take n into account whe n calcul ating the
values, thus resulting in the 10.2 Mbps peak user data rate value with four turbo-e ncodi ng
bloc ks. It shoul d be noted that, for HSD PA op eration, the terminal will not report individual
values but only the cat egory. The classes shown in Table 11.3 are as includ ed in [4] with

Th e mobility procedure s for HSD PA users are affected by the fact that transmis sion of the
HS- PDSCH and the HS-SCCH to a user belo ngs to only one of the radio links assigned to
the UE, n amely the serving HS-DSCH cell. UTR AN determin es the serving HS-DSCH cell
for an HSDPA-capab le UE, just as it is UTRA N that sel ects the cells in a certai n users active
set for DCH transm ission/re ception . Synchr onised change of the serving HS- DSCH cell is
suppor ted betwee n UTRA N and the UE, so that connec tivity o n HSDPA is achieved if the
UE moves from one cel l to another, so that start and stop of transm ission and rece ption of the
HS- PDSCH and the HS- SCCH is done at a certai n time dictat ed by UTRA N. This allows
imple mentati on of HSDPA with ful l mobilit y and coverage to fully exploit the advanta ges of
this scheme over Release 99 channe ls. The serving HS-DSCH cell may be change d wi thout
updat ing the u sers active set for the Relea se 99 dedicated channe ls, or in combina tion with
est ablishmen t, releas e, or reconfiguration of the dedicat ed channe ls. In order to enabl e such
proce dures, a new measurem ent event from the u ser is include d in Release 5 to inform
UTR AN of the best serving HS-DSC H cell
