Caldecott Prize Exercise
I have picked the book, Big Mean Mike because:
1. Has great pictures that follow along with the story line.
2. Shows children that although looks can be deceiving, we should not judge a book or
character by what they look like on the outside.
3. At the end of the book, it shows children that it is okay to have a different group of
friends than the normal ones you associate yourself with because sometimes the people
who you think are your friends may not be.
4. This book shows emotions of each character very detailed with great color.
5. This book has underlying messages: Dont judge what is on the outside and looks can
change the way we view someone.
