Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department

Fire Explorer
Apprentice
Program
JFRDs Explorer Post 29 offers participants an opportunity to experience firsthand the duties and responsibilities of a
full-time firefighter. This includes basic
training with equipment, fire tactics,
emergency medical services, as well as
responding to emergency calls as a volunteer (no direct patient contact, or direct
exposure to hazardous environments).
JFRDs Explorer Apprentice Program
will prepare the Explorer for the next steps
required to become a state-certified Emergency Medical Technician/Firefighter. This
will be accomplished through courses offered at Florida State College at Jacksonvilles Fire Academy of the South.
Tuition assistance is available to eligible
candidates to help cover the cost of these
college level courses.
