Greetings, Dr. Oshri,
My advisor, Ms. Patterson, emailed me about the Undergraduate Research Position for the Youth Development
Lab at the University of Georgia for Summer 2016. I have also been informed that there is an opportunity to do
CURO research with the Youth Development Lab. I am studying Human Development and Family Science, and, as
you know, I am already an Undergraduate Research Assistant for Spring 2016. I have enjoyed my time at the Youth
Development lab, and I am learning a lot about how to work with participants and conduct research. I am
passionate about helping children/youth to lead healthy lives. As I am planning on attending graduate school, I truly
believe that this position would help me to achieve my goal.
As an applicant, I can assure you that I am a very hard worker. I have worked multiple customer service jobs
throughout the years. These jobs have helped me to develop great interpersonal skills that enable me to interact
with a wide variety of people in an amicable and engaging manner. My current major has helped me to be familiar
with many different pertinent and influential theories that are applicable to the research that the Youth
Development Lab conducts. I am very dedicated to my studies, and my grades are impeccable. I also have ample
experience reading and reviewing research papers because of my time at the Youth Development Lab.
As a first generation, nontraditional college student, I truly understand the value of working hard to get what I want.
I am paying for college myself through scholarships and a part-time job. In order to work and maintain a high grade
point average, I have to possess excellent time-management skills which I do.
