Talking Points Memo Three
Point 1: What are some tips you have to ease my fear of misguiding my class
in regards to a writers workshop?
(Mechanically Inclined, Page 11)
Point 2: Do you agree with the books quote, find a seat and write with your
students? Wouldnt it be better for you to make yourself available to your
students and write outside of work hours since you get paid to be their
teacher?
(Writing Workshop, Page 38)
Point 3: What are your thoughts on starting a writing team at your school?
(Writing Workshop, Chapter 4)
Point 4: At point do we draw the line for letting primary children draw and start guided them
to actually write?
(Writing Workshop, Page 25)
Point 5: As educators, how time spent on specific subjects effects what students can and cannot
do
(Writing Workshop, Page 11, Figure)
Point 6: Any ideas for lessons on sequencing, spelling, rereading or supporting big ideas with
examples?
(Writing Workshop, Page 1)
2 Paragraph Response:
I want to elaborate more on my second memo point. In Writing Workshop (on page 26)
the book states, write with your students. This may be the most important strategy of all. On
page 38, again it states, I should find a seat and write with my students (Writing Workshop).
Obviously I disagree with this. I feel as a teacher it is my job to help my students. I
shouldnt be writing while they are. I should be there to answer questions, help them spell a word
if they get stuck, and really encourage them to let their creativity guide them.
