Salt Destroying Roads &

Cars
0 Despite the damage it causes to concrete,

pavement, sidewalks and waterways, we use 16

million tons of it on highways nationwide each year.
0 When salt mixes with the water from the melted
snow, it seeps down into tiny cracks in a paved or
concrete surface and expands when it refreezes,
creating cracks as it pushes against the concrete or
pavement.
0 It is a chemical people hate on their cars, but
demand on their roads. And shortages can be
politically devastating.

Continuing
0 Rust on certain parts of a car can create a

slew of problems ranging from hydraulic

brake system leaks to subframe damage.
0 This rotting or corrosion can harm the car's
exhaust and muffler systems, coil springs and
the frame of the car.
0 Most salt damage occurs underneath the car
and as a result can be difcult to detect
visually.

Proposition 1
