Why do you think William Mager refers to the day they turned his cochlear implant on as
possibly the worst day of my life?
He was used to something totally different. He lived 35 years without hearing and now hearing
robotic noises is crazy to him.
What do you think is the authors intentions with this article?
To inform the reader about the perspective on implants from the deafs point of view. The point
of view of the minority.
If you were to do further research after reading this article, what questions might you as to
learn more about this topic or similar topics?
I would research the topic of why kids who learn sign language are 12 IQ points higher than
those who dont by the age of 8.
What specifically surprised you about this article?
The question I would ask from the question above.
Do you think the writer is being an alarmist? Is losing sign language an issue worth
investigating? Or is it just another loss of technology and is not worth saving?
I think its worth saving because scientists dont have implants that improves hearing 100% and
until they do, sign language should be preserved.
