The first and most important concept introduced in this class is the lifespan human
development perspective. This prospective recognizes that all phases of life is the sole focus of
developmental study. This concept is crucial in understanding human development. A common
myth is that development only occurs in the first 20 years of life. With this prospective, we
recognize that there is development occurring in even 60 and 70 year olds. That may sound a
little strange, but this helps us to understand when and how people develop mental disorders,
coping to life changes, and many other things. This prospective explains the development people
go through as they get further and further in life.
One concept I found particularly interesting based on the prospective of lifespan human
development is the idea of personality development in adulthood. This concept explains that
personality can change as people go through life and learn from past experiences. It can explain
why an immature adolescent can become a maturely developed adult. This concept takes into
account personality traits that can develop from life experiences.
The reason I like this concept is because it gives me a sense of hope and something to
look forward to in life. We can take our personality strengths and use them to the fullest. We can
also take our weaknesses and learn how to manipulate them to our advantage.
I know that I am far from perfect and knowledgeable, but this concept shows that I can
become a better person as life progresses. I can continue to learn and understand more and more

as I grow. I wont always be at this level of progression forever, I can develop into a whole new
person if thats what I choose.
