Keynote Speaker Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, OOnt, MD, MPH, is a Palestinian physician and an
internationally recognized human rights and inspirational peace activist.
Dr. Abuelaishs internationally best-selling book, I Shall Not Hate:
A Gaza Doctors Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity, an
autobiography that centers on his life, his achievements, and the loss of
his daughters and nieces in the 2009 Gaza War, has been translated to 23
languages and has achieved critical
acclaim. It has become a testament
to his commitment to forgiveness
as the solution to conflict and the
catalyst towards peace.

by many organizations across

Canada and internationally, and is

a frequent speaker at events. He
currently lives with his five children
in Toronto, where he is an associate
professor of Public Health at the

The WOW Driver Award recognizes
an individual who has committed
to their work passion, and is blazing
a trail and setting an example for
others to follow. They are keen to
continually learn and are actively
engaged, often with others, in
discovering new and exciting
pathways, whether its at work,
in the community or at home.
This individual routinely exceeds
expectations and wows those
around them.
WOW Innovator
The WOW Innovator Award
recipient is an individual who
leads where few have gone before.
They effortlessly bring it daily,
creating new and innovative ways
of achieving their set goals. This
persons dedication and questioning
nature has made a difference in the
lives of others, and has created an
impact in their industry, community,
and/or home life.
WOW Mentor
The WOW Mentor Award
recognizes an individual who
shares their knowledge in a
profound and encouraging way.
The individual is someone who
fully understands that learning
or facilitating knowledge brings
with it independence and self-

reliance, acting as a role model,

and inspiring and leading others
to achieve great things. This can
be done through ones career,
volunteer and community work,
and/or work at home.
WOW Community Hero
The WOW Community Hero
Award recognizes an individual
who defines enthusiasm and
exuberance. They push the
envelope routinely, and give
tirelessly in their quest to make
Waterloo Region a better place to
live, work, and play for all of us.
WOW Factor
The individual selected for the
WOW Award is one who cannot
be contained in any one category.
They are driven in all they do,
shining brightly and inspiring
others at the same time. They are
both engaged and engaging and
use their passion to fuel action.
WOW Youth
The young person selected for
the WOW Youth Award is one
who has made a difference in our
community above and beyond their
years. They motivate those around
them to take action by setting a
positive and inspiring example. They
are strong in their convictions and
stand up for their beliefs, every day.
