Cassandra student taught Chemistry and Honors Chemistry at Edgewood High School from August 19th through December 18th. During her time student teaching, she exemplified characteristics that are sought after in a great new teacher. Throughout her experience in my classroom, she was actively engrossed in all aspects of the education system, including but not limited to attending departmental meetings and professional development. She is currently involved in a professional development course called Fighting with Foods that is based upon food Chemistry. Cassandra also helped develop new curriculum for the Chemistry course. We used the BuildYourOwnCurriculum software used by many Butler County school districts. I believe this is an invaluable tool for her, because she has studied the Ohio New Learning Standards in Chemistry in-depth and knows what is required for her to teach. Cassandra came into this experience with great ideas and an open mind. She was willing to adapt and change based upon the needs of the students and the class. Her positive attitude was contagious with the students and she made a tough subject fun. When Cassandra created units and assignments for either of the courses, she first took into consideration if it was aligned with the state standards and the curriculum that was necessary for the student. She created lessons that were designed to engage a multitude of learners, including kinesthetic, auditory, visual, and more. She has tremendous knowledge of Chemistry and is currently doing research in the field of Chemistry Education. Her in-depth knowledge of the subject also allows her to have cross-curricular integration in the classroom. I feel that Cassandra is a great candidate and will be a positive attribute to any school district. If you have any questions feel free to contact me anytime. Sincerely,
