5) Suppose you are offered a sales position for a medical equipment company. It offers you two
salary options. Option A would pay you an annual base salary of $27,000 plus a commission of
1.5% on sales. Option B would pay you an annual base salary of $45,000 plus a commission of 1%
on sales.
a) Which option would be your first instinct to choose? Why?
b) Find a function for each salary option.
c) Determine the annual sales required for the options to result in the same annual salary. What
would the annual salary be?
d) After finding results in part c, would you change your initial choice? Explain the reason for your
choice.

6) Sheri bakes pies for a living. She sells pies for $15 each. Her monthly fixed costs are $1200.
Each pie cost $2.50 in ingredients.
a) Find the revenue function R, treating the number of pies, x, as the independent variable.
b) Find the cost function C, treating the number of pies, x, as the independent variable.
c) Find the break-even number of pies for each month.
d) What is the minimum number of pies Sheri must sell in order to make a profit?
