Abstract: This 3 year project with CQ University and Prep to Year 3 teachers in Central
Queensland Region has resulted in a set of Principles of Optimal Reading Instruction for
At-Risk readers in Prep to Year 3. It has produced many interesting insights into the way
students learn, and how we teach. This session will help you see your own practice in a
different light and provide you with ideas and directions for the teaching of reading.
