Have you ever been in trouble and grounded by your parents? Some of you may have to think back a little longer than others, | understand! | certainly remember being grounded and that is when | discovered that | could draw! Don't ask what | did wrong but | can tell you | was 7 years old. My parents grounded me saying | must go and stay in my room everyday after school for two weeks. | went to my room and picked up a coloring book. Not wanting to be bored out of my mind, | decided | would take as long as possible drawing the picture of Mickey Mouse holding a birthday cake. About an hour later, I sat back and nearly fell out of the chait with pure shock and surprise. | couldn't believe | had drawn the picture in front of me. Suddenly carrying out the punishment with great Joy, | continued to copy every picture in the book (as well ac two others) during the two weeks of “punishment.” Years later, | would find myself looking for work in the field of illustration. Wordtoons came about while | was doodling and thinking up ideac for an upcoming job. Becoming cide tracked, you cee, ic part of the creative procese and you never know where it will go. I wondered if | could turn the word dog into a picture of a dog. ..and it worked! “Baby” was the next challenge and, again it worked, and now you have the collection of many cuccecctul experiments The rules for creating Wordtoons: |. Start with a word written ac plainly as possible. 2. Turn the word into a clear cartoon matching the word's meaning. 3. Simple enough that anyone who can write can copy it. The Wordtoons are set up to guide you through, step-by-step, with space to practice. In order to be able to perform them as a trick for friends and family or as part of a presentation, the best way is to draw a particular Wordtoon over and over again.
