In order to accommodate diverse learners in the classroom, a teacher needs to fully

consider all aspects of instruction. Accommodation doesnt just mean that word banks are
provided on the whiteboards during lessons with unfamiliar vocabulary. It goes deeper than that.
The entire classroom and its procedures need to be set up in a way so that all students benefit.
Ive learned to accommodate diverse learners by making sure that they have all the resources
they need to be successful in any situation. A resource can be a poster on the wall with relevant
information, a tablemate to ask questions to, or any other available aid within the class. I help
them use these resources by modelling how to use them myself so that they can be self-directed.
By using academic vocabulary, referring to posters to get my information, and conversing with
my students in a meaningful way, I can demonstrate to my students how they can be in charge of
their own learning. One of my goals is to create an environment where learners are motivated to
take control and thrive without constant attention.
