DISCUSSION

The experiment that has been conducted was cooling tower experiment. Cooling tower is an
equipment that widely used in industry. The main function of cooling towers is to remove waste
heat to the atmosphere so that it achieve the ideal temperature needed. The objective of cooling
tower experiment is to determine the correlation of water to air mass flow ratio with increasing
water flow rate.
From the result that has been calculated its shows that, when the heater power is 0.5kW, the
change in temperature is 15.4 0C. For the heater power of 1.0kW, the change in temperature is
13.60C. For the temperature of heater of 1.5kW, the change of temperature is 17.60C
During the experiment there are several errors that occurred. The error is that we did not take the
amount of water lost from the cooling tower from the make-up tank every time variables are
changed. So, the error affected the result of the experiment. Besides that the error that has been
detected is the efficiency of the cooling tower in the variable of the heater part. This is probably
because of the lower air mass flow rate that enters through the blower.
CONCLUSION
From the experiment, that has been conducted, it can be conclude that all objective of the
experiment is achieved. The correlation of the water to air mass flow rate with increasing water
flow rate has been determined. The effect of heating load to the cooling tower is also achieved.
From there, we can say that the higher the amount of heating load the performance of cooling
tower is also higher. The experiment cannot be said that it is 100% successful due to the error
that occurred.
