NGSS Science Standards:
Students will be able to:
Develop a simple model that mimics the function of an animal in dispersing seeds or
pollinating plants. 2-LS2-2.
Science and Engineering Practices:
Develop a simple model based on evidence to represent a proposed object or tool. (2LS2-2).
Disciplinary Core Ideas:
Plants depend on animals for pollination or to move their seeds around. (2-LS2-2).
Crosscutting Concepts:
The shape and stability of structures of natural and designed objects are related to
their function(s). (2-LS2-2).
Lesson Objective: For Science: Students will become familiar with the needs of the plant,
and apply that knowledge to discovery science centers. These centers will be used to
illustrate various concepts about plant growth, needs, and plants parts and their function.

Loose-leaf paper, photocopy paper
For Science centers:
o Flour
o Icing sugar
o Tulips (for dissection)
o Pots, soil, seeds (various), water.
o Plant books: The Great Pumpkin Plant, From Flower to Flower, Green
and Mean!, Purple Invader.
o Play dough w/ white paper.
