Capture NX 2

Thank you for purchasing or trying Capture NX 2 software. This document


contains the latest available information, which may not be included in the
user's manual.
1. Auto Red-Eye
The Auto Red-Eye may not work properly on the NEF formatted images that
have been cropped or straightened. In this case, you need to cancel the cropping
or straightening before using the Auto Red-Eye. After using Auto red eye, then
re-apply the cropping or straightening to the images.
2. .NET Framework
To use Capture NX 2, your computer needs to have the .NET Framework 2.0
installed. If the installation of the .NET Framework starts while installing
Capture NX 2, you need to complete the .NET Framework installation.
3. Display setting on the Control Panel
If you see improperly displayed characters within the dialog boxes, set the DPI
setting to Normal Size [96 DPI] using the Windows Control Panel. To access this
setting, select Display from the Windows Control Panel. Then, within the Display
Properties dialog, click the Advanced button within the Settings tab.
4. Keyboard Shortcuts
When using the LCH Editor or the Level & Curves feature, you may have difficulty
in changing over channels with the keyboard shortcuts. In this case, please use
the pull-down menu instead.
5. Opening files with another application
In order to open RAW/16-bit TIFF formatted image files with another application
using the Open With command under the File menu, the application desired
need to support 16-bit images. If the application does not support 16-bit
images, the image files cannot be opened.
6. PictureProject Transfer destination folder
If you are using PictureProject 1.7.3 or earlier, please do not select the folder you
specified as the Transfer destination folder in PictureProject for your Watched
folder in Capture NX.
7. About activating Capture NX 2
If your computer has any virus protection software installed, you may not be
able to finish activating Capture NX 2. In that case, please disable your virus
protection software temporarily or change its security level to a lower setting.
Some virus protection software includes a feature that allows you to control
security settings individually. For information on controlling security settings
individually, please refer to the documentation supplied with your virus
protection software.

To use a trial version of Capture NX 2, you need to complete activation process


which requires Internet connection.
8. Internet connection
If the message " Preparing to start up Capture NX 2..." appears at every startup
and it takes 20 seconds or more to start the application, please check your
network settings to make sure that the Internet connection using SSL (Secure
Sockets Layer) is working properly.
9. Updating image notification
When you perform the operations listed below, you may see the message
updating image on your windows title bar. While the message is displayed, you
can perform operations such as editing images.
- Opening an image file
- Editing versions in the Versions menu
- Selecting the Revert option from the File menu
10. Capture NX Version 1
If you have Capture NX Version 1 installed on your computer, please do not use
both Capture NX Version 1 and Version 2 at the same time. Using both versions
of Capture NX at the same time may cause problems.
11. Image size
The maximum pixel size allowed in Capture NX 2 is indicated below. An image
whose size is larger than the size indicated cannot be opened. Please note that
depending on the kind of edits you make, you may encounter some problems
even though the size of the image you are working on is equal to or smaller than
the maximum size.
The maximum pixel size: 15000 x 10000 pixels
12. ViewNX
If you use ViewNX with Capture NX 2, the version of ViewNX must be 1.1 or
later.
13. NEF files saved with Capture NX Version 1
If you saved a NEF file with Capture NX Version 1, the steps in Base
Adjustments in Edit List that were not applied when the file was saved will do not
appear in the Edit List in Capture NX Version 2.
14. Auto Retouch Brush
When zoomed at less than 100%, the Auto Retouch Brush will show you a quick
preview of the effect while processing the full effect. You may notice a slight
change after the full effect is applied. This may take 10 seconds or more to apply,
depending on the size of the area the Auto Retouch Brush was used to adjust as
well as the resources available. To see the exact effect at any time, zoom into

100%.
15.Using Wacom pen tablets with Windows Vista
Some default settings within Windows Vista may negatively impact the
functionality of sliders within Capture NX 2 when using a Wacom pen tablet. To
resolve this issue, please go into Window's Control Panel and select Pen and
Input Devices. Within the Pen Options tab, highlight Press and Hold and then
click on Settings. Within the window displayed, uncheck the box next to Enable
press and hold for right-clicking and press OK. Then click on the Flicks tab and
uncheck the box Use flicks to perform common actions quickly and easily. After
disabling both of these options, you will be able to interact appropriately with the
sliders and controls within Capture NX 2.
