The Columbian Exchange was when Columbus brought back the plants and animals from
the Americas to Europe. This time period produced new culture for both Europe and the newly
formed America.
The Columbian Exchange caused both good and bad for Europe and the
Americas. During this time period, people transported food and animals across the Atlantic
Ocean. This caused an uproar for goods found in the Americas. Not only were food and animals
transported over the ocean but diseases were transported to both the Americas and Europe
causing a drop in population of Native Americans. Although many people died from the diseases
that were carried over from the Americas, the overall population increased.
Another thing caused by the Columbian Exchange was the Commercial Revolution
which led to an abundant increases in wealth. Due to the new and fascinating plants and animals
that were native the the Americas, England gained wealth from the trade they had with other
european nations such as Spain and Italy. This caused a significant rise in economic power for
England. This economic success influenced more people to move to the Americas to grow in
their land and wealth.
These are the positive and negative effects of the Columbian Exchange, as well as the
economic success that it brought to England. The Columbian Exchange started an immensely
important time for England in which it grew as a world power.
