In April [ will complete my full year of student teaching first grade at Valley View School in Phoenix, Arizona, I have been teaching the entire day of instruetion since early March, Asa student teacher in a Title I school I had the opportunity to work with stuclents from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. I leamied to differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of my ELL students, students whose first language was not English, and students who are above grade level. In my student teaching experience { worked with a small group improve their sight word knowledge and over 100% growth, This improvement has led me to focus on sight words as a whole class in order to improve all students’ reading fluency. So far, I have seen a 38% growth as a whole class and plan to continue working for greater improvement. My passion is to work with students from lower income areas because I feel that they need great teachers, teachers who care about them and helieve in them.
