I am applying for the position of materials/metallurgical engineer. I came across this job while researching jobs on CareerBuilder.com. Come May of 2016 I will have my degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Washington State University. While attending, I learned technical skills for materials characterization such as mechanical testing, electron microscopy, and optical analysis. Using these techniques I worked for a professor characterizing metal samples through mechanical testing and precise coating thickness measurements for reporting to the clients. After this project was over I was hired onto the Sports Science Research Lab team where we perform testing to collect specific data on baseball and softball bats in order to check compliance with the standards set by the ASA and NCAA. For us to accurately test sporting gear our equipment had to be in top working order and it was the job of the technicians team, including me, to ensure they were properly calibrated and make repairs. We followed a kiazen system in the lab and any improvements were a welcome topic at team meetings. Materials are the backbone of any technological advance and your company is advancing the materials we use. From my work with characterization techniques inside and outside of the classroom to data analysis and preparation of analytical reports, I am prepared for a career in research and development. As I learned early on as a member of the Carlson team, hard work, attention to detail, trust, and customer satisfaction are the keys to progression both within the team and as a company as a whole. For your convenience I have included my resume. Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to meeting with you for an interview.
