What Freedom Means to Me
Freedom is very important. The word freedom is defined as the power or right to act,
speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Nelson Mandela once said For to be
free is not merely to cast off ones chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the
freedom of others. We are very lucky to have freedom because some countries dont have
freedom and they still have to fight in wars for their countrys freedom. Freedom is important to
me because freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of being who you want to be.
Freedom allows us to say what we want to say without a punishment. This is called
freedom of speech. In the U.S. we are allowed to say anything we want and in other countries
they get punished for saying something.
With freedom you can worship any god/king you want to worship. This is called freedom
of religion. Freedom of religion is the freedom to praise and god you want. In some countries
they have a king and they have to worship that king.
Freedom allows us to work and to be anything we want. That is very helpful because in
other countries they are forced to work at they cant be anything they want even if they are really
good at that specific thing. In America, you can be whatever you want without being forced to do
something.
Asa Phillip Randolph once said Freedom is not given; it is won. This quote means that
you cant be given freedom. You have to win it by fighting in by fighting in wars. Freedom is not
a gift. It is like doing chores to earn your allowance. You have to do the chores and your reward
is the money. This is just like earning freedom. You have to fight in wars and win. Then, your
reward is freedom. That is why freedom is important to me.
