Contour Tracking Control in Position Domain for CNC Machines

A common problem encountered by high precision manufacturing processes is the contour tracking performance of
end-effectors. Various control approaches have been proposed to improve axial positioning accuracy. Some
examples of control strategies to improve axial tracking are, proportional derivative (PD) controller, high gain
proportional integral derivative (PID) controller, a feed-forward controller, and a zero phase error tracking
controller. These approaches typically involve controlling the axis of a multi-axis system independently without
consideration of other axes. This may be preferred if the disturbance in one axis does not affect the performance of
the other axes.
