Research Proposal
The topic I chose is Concussions in Football leading to Mental Disorders. I chose this topic
because I love football and I do like the physicality but I think that there needs to be a system
that is put into place to so head to head collisions or head to ground collisions can be spotted
immediately. If that happens the n they can evaluate the player immediately and effectively so
that they can know whether or not, they can play in that game again. There is a system that is in
place but the spotters who are looking for these collisions tend to miss some from time to time
and when it comes to head collisions, not a single on can be missed.
I know a good bit about this topic because I have done research on it in the past.
Although, the statistical values may be different than what they were when I previously
researched this, the overall point of this paper will be the same as the other.
Things such as repetitive head injuries and no being able to spot these collisions is what
causes some problems. There are numerous statistics that support the idea that these collisions
lead to something harmful down the road.
What precautionary measures can be put in place?
How can these spotters become more effective at their jobs?
How many concussions is one too many?
Why hasnt the NFL done something to help promote their players safety other than a 15 yard
penalty?

1. Do head to head collisions in football lead to dementia and other brain disorders?
2. The primary purpose of this project is to explore.
3. I do not have any biases towards this topic whatsoever. I love to watch football every
chance I get but I do think that the NFL needs to step up and do something. Before I had
seen the working knowledge assignment, I was thinking about the stories of former NFL
players taking their lives for no apparent reason.
