To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing because I am interested in applying for any potential Social Studies openings
in your district. I completed my Practicum placement at Bryan Station High School and I
loved the community and passion I saw not only at Bryan Station, but also in the Fayette
County Public School system. It is evident that its about kids.
I got into teaching because it is one of a few jobs where a caring adult can have a
significant impact on teenagers. I love the academic side of teaching, but I think I love the
mentor side of teaching more. The process of building trust between students and myself
has made me a more honest and humble person. I have learned so much from students,
already. They have shown me how to be brave, resilient, and hardworking. As a teacher, I
promise I will bring everything I have to the table and that I will do my best to reflect
back the bravery, resilience, and hard work I see in my students.
My education at the University of Kentucky has allowed me to study under Dr. Kathy
Swan, writer of the C3 Framework. As these new standards roll out, I believe I could be
an asset to your school as someone who has worked with the Inquiry Design Model and
learned about the techniques from the writer herself. I have also worked outside of
education before deciding to become a teacher and have real life experiences in the
disciplines I will be teaching. Furthermore, I have experience working with teenagers
who have been labeled at risk and I find that I thrive in these types of situations,
something I see as an asset in the classroom.
I am very interested in working for Fayette County Public Schools and becoming part of
its community. While I am currently in Sweden completing my student teaching, I am
available any time by Skype. Additionally, I return May 20th, after which, I would love to
stop by the school and introduce myself in person at your earliest convenience. You will
find my resume enclosed and I encourage you to visit my online portfolio where you will
find more information about me as well as lesson plans I have developed. I look forward
to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Lewis
