Ruling Planets and Krishnamurtipaddhati

One of the most important tenets of Krishnamurtipaddhati,

especially in timing events, is the concept of Ruling Planets.
According to classical thinking in K.P.Astrology, the ruling planets
are planets that rule a particular moment in time. These are:
a) The Lord of the Star in which the Moon is deposited
b) The Lord of the Sign in which the Moon is deposited
c) The Lord of the Star in which the Lagna is rising
d) The Lord of the Sign in which the Lagna is rising
e) The Lord of week day (Hindu day is to be followed which extends
from one Sunrise to the next Sunrise)
It is said that, the ruling planets play a vital role in determining the
timing of events. The ruling planets which rule the time of judgment
will be (will be among) the ruling planets when a particular even
fructifies.
Among the ruling planets, the order of importance is as follows:
a) The Lagna Star Lord - is considered as the most powerful ruling
planet, followed by
b) The Lagna Sign Lord, followed by
c) The Moon Star Lord, followed by
d) The Moon Sign Lord, and finally,
e) The Day Lord
It is also to be understood that in recent times, many illustrious
students of Krishnamurtipaddhati have also included the following
planets as ruling planets:
a) The planets which are conjoined with the above mentioned ruling
planets, or, those that as aspected by them
b) The Lagna Sub Lord (some also consider the sub sub lord)
c) The Moon Sub Lord (again some consider the sub sub lord also)
Also note that, in every case, if either or both of the nodes
represent any ruling planets in the above list, then the Node should
be considered as a ruling planet. In fact, as said in an earlier article,
a node is more powerful than the planet it represents and can be
included "instead of" the concerned planet.
No event in this world, including the thinking of human beings is

exempt from the influence of planets. Guruji has said "Buddhi

Karmaanusaarini", i.e., the mind of a person works as per his Karma
and the thoughts that arise are a consequence of the karmic burden
which everyone carries. Thus in Horary Astrology, when someone
utters a number for a question he/she poses, the number is
influenced by the collective planetary influences at that time, which
in turn is dependent on the Karmic burden of the individual.
Thus while assessing almost every question in Krishnamurtipaddhati
one should make use of the ruling planets. In some cases, when the
querist' urge to ask a question is very strong or the astrologer gets
a very powerful urge to answer a query, Guruji has said that one
need not consider anything other than the ruling planets at the
moment to analyze the matter at hand. In all cases, without fail, if
the urge is sincere and the intent is benign, the ruling planets will
guide the receptive astrologer in understanding and judging a
problem.
Elimination of Ruling Planets:
When deciding the time of an event, one considers the ruling
planets. If one is judging a horary chart, then one should take the
planets which are common between the significators of the matter
concerned and also the ruling planets at the time of judgment.
However, one must exercise caution in this. Those ruling planets
which are in the star of a retrograde planet or in the sub of a
retrograde planet, have to be rejected as they never vote for the
positive result in any manner. However, if a ruling planet is itself
retrograde, but is in the star and sub of a planet in direct motion,
then one need not reject the same. But one should note that the
retrograde planet will not give favorable results until it becomes
direct again and also crosses the point at which it turned
retrograde. For example, if Jupiter is retrograde on a given date and
it was in 10 Libra 30 when it started retrograding, then one has to
wait for the time until Jupiter resumes direct motion and also
crosses 10 Libra 30 for it to give favorable results. Jyotishya
Deepika makes it possible to get this information at the push of a
button. You may select a planet which is retrograde and get to know
when the planet turned retrograde and what its longitude was at
that time. You will also get information on when the planet resumes
direct motion and across the point of retro gradation.
Also one should note that ruling planets which are detrimental to
the matters signified by a bhaava have to be eliminated as they do
not give positive results. Thus if one is judging the results of the
10th bhaava and one finds that the 2 of the planets among the

ruling planets at the time judgment are significators of the 9th

bhaava, then these two planets have to be eliminated in judging the
results.
Use of Ruling Planets in Rectifying Birth Time:
Professor Shri K.S.Krishnamurtiji has noted that the planets ruling
the time of judgment will be among the ruling planets at the time of
birth of an individual. This simple rule helps us to rectify birth times
accurately. Jyotishya Deepika Ultimate implements this rule and
makes it easy for you to rectify birth times based on the ruling
planets at the time of judgment. We will study more of Birth Time
Rectification in another article in this reference.
Thus, to conclude, ruling planets are a vital tenet of
Krishnamurtipaddhati and every query should be judged after
taking these into consideration.
