Harrison Trepagnier
Ms. Coco
English 1001-11
15 March 2016
My Audience is a group of students who do not like to write papers or essays.
Preface: Like usually I have had trouble writing this paper and it is nothing new to me. I
try very to keep up with deadlines and dates but I get very irresponsible when it comes to
this things. Enough of that though, now lets get to talking about this paper. First I would
like to say that I think this paper came out better than I originally thought it because at
first I could not think of what to write about. Specific revision that I made is in the
paragraph about my sophomore teacher I added more details about her teaching habits. I
alt added lots of details throughout the paper. These revisions definitely helped develop
my paper because originally it was not very good it was the most basic ideas thrown onto
paper but now I think it is very good. I do not really question any of my revision I am
more question of if I have enough that is enjoyable to read. My three concerns of this
paper are is it organized that my reader understands, can my reader feel like they are
actually there, and does it sound like I am just rambling on and on.

Old Enemy
1: Influences are the people, usually older, who help shape a person become the
person they are today. They are the people that influence the beliefs and ideologies that
you follow and practice. Like you I have had many influences throughout my life who
have helped me with school, religion, sports, and many more. One major group of

Trepagnier2
influences that I have had in my life are the current and past teachers who help me
develop and become a better student. I have been going to school for almost 13 years
now and throughout those years I have had many different teachers who have and have
not influenced in good ways. More specifically the english teachers that I have had have
influenced me to become a better writer but, unfortunately not all those teachers have
been good influences. These teachers are the ones that have helped create the type of
writer that I am today and I have combined a little bit of all there tips and tricks to
become the best writer I can be. As I had mention I have also had negative influences
who have made it difficult to become a better writer because the way they teach would
mean I would have to change everything as a writer. These negative influences have
helped me learn what not to do and how to overcome a bad teacher in my learning career.
Three people that come to mind when talking about english influences are people that I
have really like and dislike but I believe have done the most in shaping me as a writer.
First is my sophomore high school english teacher Ms. Yasi Jahed, second my older
brother David Trepagnier, and third my fall semester college english teacher Mrs. Dotty
Mcgaughey.
2: It was the first day of school my sophomore year of high school I had just
gotten out of math class and was enjoying the day because I love math. I look at my
schedule and saw English II room 209 was next. Immediately my day had gotten worse I
dreadedly walked up the stair and down the hall to see a very boring looking classroom
with no color or posters on the wall. I sat in a very uncomfortable seat in the back row
took out a notebook and a pen a waited for our teacher to walk into the classroom. About
three minutes later there she was a lady standing in the doorway she was about five feet

five inches tall, extremely muscular, and with black hair. She looked around the class
with a slight grin on her face which made it seem like she was gonna have a lot more fun
than we were. Her name was Yasi Jahed and she seemed quite intimidating at first she
told us where she went to college, what her major was, and that she was an Mix Martial
Arts fighter. All I could think at that point was this is going to be the worst class ever. She
could not have proved me wrong any worse. Weeks went by and I actually enjoyed the
way she taught. She actually cared about us and how we did in the class and she even
taught was tricks to make writing easier and more efficient. The best trick that she taught
me was how to make a very good outline for every paper. We would start with a very
simply and dumb looking outline with our main points, our introduction, and conclusion.
After we would build off of that adding more details and bullet points. We would keep
expanding until it was time to write out our paper and it was as easy as making a bowl of
cereal. After writing our papers we find three in our class to peer review and this part was
graded on everyone's part so our review would usually be extremely helpful. Then we
would edit it on our own checking for grammatical errors and minor mistakes. I enjoyed
the way she graded as well her main focus was on the mean of our papers and essay she
was not a stickler on grammar which was very nice. The thing she graded the moston was
the meaning of our papers and if I it really seemed like we tried our hardest when writing.
I really enjoyed her class and I honestly it made me an extremely better writer. The best
thing that she had taught me was to use the resources and the people around me to make
myself a better writer. Fortunately I have an older brother who I use a lot edit and review
my papers and essays.

3: Teachers only have so much information, they have lots of students so they can
only help you with so much, and sometimes the little things are just overlooked and it is
not their fault it is just they have lots of student. My brother has been able to fill in the
gaps where my teachers unfortunately miss. When this happens it makes my papers so
much better. David is 15 months older than me, he is much more mature so people
usually think he is a lot older than me. David is very good with attention to detail he
would always find the little things that I would overlook in my paper. These minor fixes
would make major differences in my writing. David would read my paper then find the
mistakes I would make he would fix them for me he would explain diffrent ways that I
could fix them. After I made the changes he would read it again and tell me if the changes
I made were good not. David has also taught me how to better schedule my time so I can
have my writings ready on time because that it very important. He would give me
examples of his schedule for english class that I could follow to help me be on time with
my papers. Having good influences is always a good thing but, having bad influences can
also be somewhat helpful they can teach you what not to do and how to overcome bad
things.

Some teachers are not very good at their jobs when I think of a teacher like this I

think of Dotty Mcgaughey she was my fall semester english teacher. Ms. Mcgaughey did
not teach us how to write or try to help us become a better writer. She would assign us
paper except us to write them with minimal help then she would grade them and if she
did not like the way it was written she would grade very difficult. Ms. Mcgaughey would
not look at the context or meaning of our papers her biggest focus was on our grammar
and I did not like this. After failing my first paper she had informed me I was probably

Trepagnier5
going to fail the class because my grammar sucked. I tried my hardest to do well in her
class but she would always just figure out ways to fail my papers. She did teach us a few
ways on how to write but when I would try to do it she would give me a bad grade. She
like to teach us to write our full paper first then to just get peer reviews and edit it
ourselves. Overall she was a pretty crappy teacher and everything she tried to teacher me
I have forgotten about.

As you can see I have had many influences most good but some bad. I believe

that these people have made me the writer I am today and I thank them for that. The skill
they taught me I use throughout college in all of my courses and not only english.
Between the outline that Ms. Yahed taught me and the revision process my brother taught
me I think that as a writer I am pretty good. I should probably go back to shadowing my
brother with his written out schedule because I have not good on getting things turned in
on time. These influences have shaped the writer I am today and I still use the tips and
tricks that they have taught me.
