JOINT TOWNSHIP DISTRICT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ADRIL25, 2016 AN ARTLATE OF GRAND TARE TEA SYSTER To Whom It May Concern: Erin Atnold completed an internship in the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in 2016. She worked in this department eight weeks (January — April) and worked 120 hours at our facility. Erin experienced all aspects of the HIM department. She worked with clerical staff to prepare medical records for electronic archival as well as observing how requests for information are handled. Erin worked with our chart analyst to assemble medical records into a uniform order, check and flag charts for physician deficiencies, as well as ensuring charts are completed by physicians, We also trained Exin how to abstract specific information from medial records and actually had her performing this fanction herself for some medical records. Erin was also exposed to coding and transcription. Erin sat with an experienced coder who showed het all the different types of medical records that need coded and briefly overviewed the different rules and guidelines that are followed for specific types of visits. Then, Erin was trained to code outpatient medical records, with oversight of our Lead Coder. Erin's quality in coding was very good during her brief exposure. Erin was also trained on transcribing reports and performed transcription, with the oversight of our Lead ‘Transcriptionist. Finally, Erin spent several hours with me understanding HIPAA, reporting, revenue cycle, health information exchange, etc. She also attended several leadership and EMR implementation planning meetings with me. Erin also spent 15 hours working in our Admitting area, which consists of registration and scheduling, She observed registration in both an outpatient and emergency room setting. Erin's performance was excellent. She was eager to learn all aspects of the HIM department and did not hesitate to ask questions to ensure her understanding of each area. Erin is a quick learner and willing to perform any task that helps the department or helps her grow in learning processes. Erin’s attendance was very good as well. She has knowledge of the HIM area and has been exposed to many processes and tasks performed in a health information area. Erin would be a great asset to any health care facility.
