Objectives
Relate the moles of reactants to moles of products in an observed chemical
reaction
Relate the moles of reactants to moles of products in chemical reactions
using mathematical reasoning
Calculate moles of reactants or products from given moles of reactants or
products (Mole Mole problems)
Materials
Hydrogen peroxide %30, Sodium Iodide, dishwashing soap, Graduated cylinder,
trey, glows, apron, googles,
Introduction
Set induction:
- Demonstrate a reaction which is called old foamy or elephant toothpaste to
engage students.
H2O2 + NaI H2O + O2 + Na+ + I- Show reaction and balance it by asking questions for all class on the board by
using contents which they learned last class.
Direct instruction:
- Teach what is the mole ratio
- Show how to use mole ratio to find other matters moles by given mole of one
of them.
- Solve some examples on the board.

Assessment
Students get a quick assessment to check they understand or not.
1) Given this equation: N2 + H2 ---> NH3, balance it and write the following
molar ratios:
a) N2 / H2
b) N2 / NH3
c) H2 / NH3

2) Given the following equation: H2 + S8 ---> H2S, balance it and write the
following molar ratios:
a) H2 / H2S
b) H2 / S8
c) H2S / S8
Closure
- After they complete questions, some students solve questions on the board.
- Teacher will explain questions by solving same questions,
- Teacher review the mole ratio,
