Responsibilities to co-workers
For example, If we come across a situation where one colleague started talking about another
colleague, and also wanted opinion from us this is an ethical responsibility and also an ethical dilemma.
As teachers we have to talk with our colleagues if we see anyone doing something unethical. However,
this situation can also be considered as an ethical dilemma depending on how we are going to approach
our colleagues in a good and positive way. We always have to maintain a good relationship with our
colleagues, and respect all of them in order to establish a good work environment. You should refrain
from talking about another colleague unless you are doing so with that person privately and
confidentially. Also to ensure a trusting and professional relationship mention your concerns in a way
how they are impacting children and only use first-hand information. Another thing is doing it
respectfully.
Responsibilities to employers
As an employee it's our responsibility to abide the rules and policies of the program and ensure
you do everything you can to make it effective unless it would violate or effect the children. Do not
speak about the policies in a way to represent the organization unless you are authorized. And in case
you are authorized ensure when you are representing organization versus when you are expressing your
personal judgement. If you have concerns with the code or coworkers, ensure you bring it up to
concerned authorities.
Responsibilities to employees
As an employer one should provide a safe, trusting environment for employees to work. Strive to
have employees compensated fairly. Treat their information confidential and respect their right to
privacy. Provide avenues for them to grow and learn. Create opportunities and culture where their skills
and abilities can be leveraged to support, design and improve the child care program. Hiring and firing
decisions to be taken objectively based on competence, accomplishments and their ability to perform
the role and no other reasons like sex, age, ethnicity etc. unless otherwise mandated by law. Ensure to
have firsthand information that is adequately documented to show incompetence or unethical behavior
that directly impacts children or success of the program and be fully transparent with that particular
employee while taking any disciplinary actions including termination.
Individual
As an individual child care provider one should take pride in their profession. Be truthful in
representing your candidature and offer to provide services that you are qualifies and can fulfill
completely. Do take care in reviewing the qualifications and abilities of any one before providing
reference. Be fully aware of laws and regulations that protect children. Children safety is paramount and
be vigilant for any practices that jeopardize the health, safety and well-being of children it is your ethical
responsibility to inform parents or concerned authorities.
Collective
Collectively as early childhood educators we have responsibility to provide healthy and safe
environment for children to grow and learn. To leverage education, research and advocate towards an
environmentally safe programs that promote communities for children and families to live safely
without any violence. To support laws and policies that promote well-being of children and families and
