Annotated Bibliography
Reel, Justine J. "Anorexia Nervosa." Eating Disorders: An Encyclopedia of Causes, Treatment, and
Prevention. Santa Barbara, Calif: Greenwood, 2013. 26-31. Print.
In Reels book, anorexia is of Greek origin and translates to, lack of appetite. Although the
translation is lack of appetite, its inadequate for completely understanding the persistent
control and self- discipline features related to the eating disorder. Anorexia Nervosa is most
prevalent in commercial areas with citizens who focus on the idea of being sickly thin just to be
even considered attractive. Females with Anorexia Nervosa are often visualized as someone with
pale skin and protruding collar bones. This section of the book will help me with my claim that

there are resources to help individuals with anorexia nervosa, because it goes more into depth
about the situation and its long term conflicts.

Von Schlegal, Amanda. "How the Media Affects the Self Esteem and Body Image of Young
Girls." Divine Caroline. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 Mar. 2016.
In Von Schlegals, media affects the self-esteem and body image of young women. When
growing up, young girls are reeled into the medias trap to strive for ultimate perfection. Models
have a major influence on young women, because they look up to the fashion icons and go to
extreme measurements to be exactly like them. The media is always soliciting new ideas for
teenagers and young adults to willingly change their lifestyles and reimage themselves through
what they are told is a healthy way to gain flawlessness, when really they are associating with the
devil of control. This article will help me with my thesis, because it explains the struggles young
women go through when unprotected from the media and when being forced to see model
photographs.

Gonzalez, Gabriella. "Final Paper: Influence of Media on Eating Disorders." Toris First Year
Seminar Blog RSS. Hoarder, 6 Nov. 2014. Web. 10 Mar. 2016.
In Gonzalez paper, Influence of Media on Eating Disorders, technology is used
tremendously by young peoples. Clothing and certain advertisements are extreme aspects
revolving around body size. The influence of the media has sparked an increase of eating
disorders in collegiate aged women all around the world. This sad fact must be changed in order
to keep this group of society both physically and mentally healthy. Thinness is not an indicator
of beauty, and therefore, should not be portrayed as so in the media. This source will help me

write my service paper, because it gives examples of ideal perfect models and how certain
television advertisements increase weight consciousness.
