VAMNICOM being the pioneering institution in cooperative development, understands the Climate Issues, the UNFCCC concerns of Climate adaption and thus wishes to enlighten various cooperative enterprises and societies in their role in this global issue. In this view it is proposing a 2 - days seminar on “Climate Change and Role of Cooperatives”. Mr. Ban said in his address to mark the international Day of Cooperatives last year that, “Every coordinated effort, no matter how small, can contribute to and form a larger, more powerful climate response. It is in keeping with this focus that cooperatives are expanding their development efforts creatively, into areas such as environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality, as communities around the world are struggling to adapt to climate change and strengthen their resilience against its impacts.” He cited the example of such through agriculture and energy sector cooperatives’ abilities to concurrently address food and energy security locally as well as environmental deterioration. “On this International Day, I strongly encourage Governments to carry out measures and regulations that will be supportive of partnerships with cooperative enterprises,” the message said. “Let us redouble our efforts to find new points of collaboration as we address the daunting challenge of climate change.” The world community have taken a first concrete step towards this by accepting provisions of COP21 at Paris and it will soon be the responsibility of each and every citizen of this world to ensure that the treaty is adopted and signed by all governments. Along with the individual citizen, the Cooperatives will play a massive role in such enforcement, being the peoples movement.
