Ethnography Reflection

When Ms. Knudson first told us about our ethnography I was scared to death. I had heard
of ethnographies but had no clue how to write one or what they entailed. The first step in my
ethnography was brain storming about where I wanted to go to observe for two hours. Once I had
completed the first step the next was to go to the place I had chosen to do my observations. I
observed for a little over two hours at Sams Club. When I first chose Sams Club I wondered
what type of people shopped their and what they bought. During my research I observed most
people checking out buying toilet paper or milk. My final conclusion of products most frequently
purchased included paper towels, toilet paper, milk, fresh fruits, pet food and cleaning supplies.
The third step after my observation was to come up with a topic of inquiry and a thesis
statement. My thesis statement was I wonder what the people of Sams Club are thinking while
shopping there. The fourth step was to write my paper which I started with a bumpy start.
Although I had a lot of observations notes it was hard for me to get into my topic causing me to
struggle to reach five pages. Throughout the project I had the guidance of Ms. Knudson
thankfully. In the end I persevered and overcame the brutal ethnography.
