Edgar Allen Poe

He was born on January 19th 1809 in Boston MA. Edgar is the child of
David and Elizabeth Poe. His mother died when he was only 2. It was a difficult
time for his family but the managed over time. As he turned six he started school in
england for five years. In this time he learned Latin and French as his most
advanced classes.
Edgar excelled through basic school. In 1826 he decided to attend the
university of Virginia at the age of 17. It didn't last long he started drinking and got
into debt and had to drop out. His father would give him little amounts of money
but he would use it to gamble to get money for his debt, he never got lucky which
caused even more debt to his name.
Some may say his family was his influence for writing, in some ways they
are. He wanted to express his feelings in his stories. Which like his life always
ended in tragedy, he used his mothers death as a motivator a lot in his career. This
became his trademark, starting as a normal causal story but ending in tragedy he
states like his saddened life.
On the bright side of all of this he got awards for almost all of his peices of
writing. His first award was a fifty dollar one for Ms.Found in a bottle awarded by
Baltimore saturday visiter october 1833. Later that same year got another cash
award for 100 dollars from the dollar newspaper. His most famous and impressive

award was getting into the hall of fame in new york, many other writing excerpts
got awards just not as impressive.
In Edgar's life he had some weird antics such as he was obsessed with cats
he used them to see darkness for his stories. He would write with one on his
shoulder or on his lap. He would have people draw dark things for him for ideas,
the raven was originally called the parrot because they could talk, but later changed
it because the raven was a darker bird and could also talk if the tongue was cut in
half.
Poe got married when he was only thirteen to his first cousin Virginia, She
passed from the same this his mother step mother and brother died fom, which was
tuberculosis. He wrote the raven and a couple little stories as she died and shortly
after she died. He was soon to follow in the footsteps of death.
He got sick and five days before he died he was advised not to travel. Due to
his illness and his heavy drinking lately. He was so sick he couldn't remember
where he put his luggage. He then died October 7, 1849. His enemy wrote his
obituary. The weirdest fact is that his cat couldnt live without him his cat
didnt eat after he died and eventualy died from starvation.
