1. For someone working in your field, please describe the fantasies versus realities of the job.

Fairly secure, most of my job is electronic so it is not impossible to replace me.

Summary:
Working in a medical office comes with a lot of stress considering that was a main concern for
both office staff I interviewed
Some office staff are more hands on with the patients and are in charge of documenting and
bringing the patients in, while others just work the front desk part and deal with the paperwork
side of the job
Technology is quickly advancing and can take many jobs
You must learn quickly with technology and other tasks in order to be successful in this job
because there are many medical office staff out there
You do not need much education, high school diploma or associates
Certain offices can require courses for all of their employees to take so they are comfortable with
office procedures and equipment
Starting rate is minimum wage and you must work very hard to get a raise and earn more than
that
Both were fairly new to this job
Working in a dermatology office requires patience and understanding because people are not
always comfortable with their appearance or temporary condition
It is important to be giving and a helpful person when being an office staff because it is your job
to help the patients and doctor
It is not the most secure job, but both enjoy it and the lifestyle
You get to learn a lot from the doctor in charge because they teach you more while they are
teaching their patients
Being a part of a medical office staff consists of making phone calls constantly with patients,
pharmacies, and insurance companies.
