Addition and Subtraction Learning Plan

A. Pre-Assessment
* Give the students a pre-test on what they know about Addition and Subtraction before I begin
teaching them about the topic.
B. Standards
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to,
taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g.,
by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent
the problem.
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or
equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown
number to represent the problem.
C. Objectives
* The students will learn how to add and subtract numbers 1-10.
* The students will be able to recognize their numbers.
* The students will understand what addition and subtraction mean.
* The students will know what the addition sign and the subtraction sign look like.
D. Materials
* shaving cream
* wet paper towel

* addition and subtraction book

* paper
* Addition and Subtraction Pre and Post Tests
E. Instructional Sequence
* The students would have already learned their numbers and how to add and subtract.
* The students are studying for their test on Addition and Subtraction.
* I will show the students the bulletin board. I will make sure the students know their numbers
by pointing to each number. Then, I will point to one of the problem on the board and ask the
students to raise their hand if they know the answer to the problem.
* Next, we will play with shaving cream. I will put shaving cream on each students desk in front
of them. I will say an addition or subtraction problem and they will write the answer in the
shaving cream on their desk. After each question, the students will erase their answer by moving
their hand in the shaving cream.
F. Closure
* I will give the students a quiz over Addition and Subtraction.
G. Adaptations and Extensions
Make sure the students know their numbers and can add and subtract their numbers correctly. If
there are children who are color blind I will help them with the poster and work with them
individually if needed. If a student is allergic to shaving cream I will have to find another activity
for the class to do.
