Science Learning Plan


Dogs
A. Pre-Assessment
* Ask the students what they know about dogs.
* Ask them if they can name the parts of a dog.
B. Standards
GLE 0007.1.1 Recognize that many things are made of parts.
GLE 0007.3.1 Recognize that living things require water, food, and air.
GLE 0007.4.1 Observe how plants and animals change as they grow.
GLE 0007.5.1 Compare the basic features of plants and animals.
C. Objectives
* The students will learn the parts of a dog.
* The students will learn what a dog needs to survive.
* The students will learn that dogs change as they age.
D. Materials
* Small dog
* big dog
* construction paper
* markers
* crayons
* dog book
E. Instructional Sequence
* Read the students a book about dogs.
* I will have someone bring in a small dog and a big dog to let the students pet and
play with for a short while.

* While the dogs are there, I will ask the students if they know what dogs need to
survive and how to take care of a dog.
* Ask the children to compare the 2 dogs and see what is different and what is the
same about them.
F. Closure
* I will have the students draw a dog and label it's body parts.
G. Adaptations and Extensions
* If I have a student who is allergic to dogs, I will not have a dog come into the
classroom. I will come up with another plan if this does occur.
