Say Na to Sodium: Reducing Americas Sodium Intake

Washington, D.C. May 6th, 2016: Heart disease is one of the largest problems in
America. With about 610,000 people dying of heart disease in the United States
every year, dealing with this issue should be a top priority in our country. By
amending the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to include regulations on
sodium limit in processed and restaurant foods, we can prevent many more cases of
hypertension and as a result, many more deaths in America.

According to the American Heart Association, 90% of Americans sodium intake

comes from restaurant and packaged foods, with only 10% from home cooking and
adding salt at the table. 90% of the sodium that Americans take in is outside of
their control; consequently, most Americans consume more than twice the daily
recommended limit of sodium. By targeting this 90%, we can lower the risk of
hypertension and heart disease.

With your support for the amendment of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
to include a limitation on sodium chloride levels in restaurant and packaged foods,
we can reduce hypertension rates in America, and consequently, reduce Heart
Disease in America. Your actions to support this amendment cam make America a
heart healthy country. Tell your legislator to vote YES on the amendment to 21
USC 343.
Support the Say Na to Sodium campaign to reduce heart disease deaths in
America.
