Stem Learning

CHD 145

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and

mathematics and generally supports broadening the study of engineering
within each of the subjects .Stem learning is becoming more popular these
days. Stem education should start during the early years of children, when
their interests, desires and abilities are being formed. Stem education is for
all children not only for those in a gifted program.
Since 1981, The Wolf Trap Institute has worked with local schools,
teachers and artists and believes strongly in Stem education particularly in
the performing arts. The Arts help children understand, explore and
experience various areas in different subjects like in math concepts such as
number counting, measurement and geometry. Studies show that the Arts
play a vital role in the developmental skills in creativity, critical thinking and
communication in young children. Children learn to integrate and make
connections between the different areas in math, science, art and movement.
Wolf Traps Arts based teaching method helps childrens innate desire for
active, multisensory learning. Some ways children learn concepts best are
singing, dancing, storytelling and role play.

Wolf Trap is a leader in early childhood Stem education through the

Arts and this can be seen from its significant growth.Wolf Trap also offers
workshops for early childhood professionals, teachers, and educators as
well. Wolf Trap education partners with several schools and institutes for
research in order to develop, evaluate and implement Stem teaching
strategies. This in turn results in professional development for teachers
through the Wolf Trap program.
