To Whom It May Concern,
If | were to have to unexpectedly leave my students in someone's care, Nathan Nugent is the
singular teacher who would attend to the depth and breadth of their needs as I feel they deserve.
The caliber of his character, of his professional ethics and of the knowledge he brings to the
classroom are imbued, in equal measure, with the fresh energy of a new teacher as well as, most
notably, the calibrated insights of a skilled veteran, Nathan is exceptional,
A full year before he transitioned from his career in journalism to teaching, good fortune led
Nathan to volunteer in my classroom, assisting student study groups through inquiry in formal
AVID tutorials. For the entire year, he arrived, like clockwork, creating relationships and
modeling reflective questioning. He clearly had the presence and instincts which create that
tangible, dynamic magic when student and teacher roles are interchangeable to facilitate an
environment conducive to learning, to making certain that curiosity has expression, Beginning in
the summer of 2015, it was my great pleasure to become one of his mentor teachers. In a daily
ELD block, we chose to function as co-teachers; consequently, Nathan commanded full respect,
from our students by mid fall. My only critique of his work is related to occasional harsh self
judgment and expectations which represent the standards he holds dear. Over time, this settled
and he gained a comfort level with planning as well as implementation. From day one, his keen
observation skills tracked individual progress; in tun, he would suggest and then develop
remediation or extension. Almost daily, he takes a small group of our most recent arrivals and
delivers lessons he has planned. Suffice measuring his success in this to say that the older second
language speakers are regularly asking to join his newcomer pull out.
Better you request to see Nathan’s portfolio to fully appreciate the impact of his efforts than to
gauge my word. Nathan Nugent's presence would significantly enhance any campus community;
out of deep regard, I respect his instincts that he wishes to move on. Please, do call or write if
might in any way be of service on behalf of this gifted man,
Most Sincerely,
AnnicSally hacks
