‘To Whom It May Concern,
‘As a new English teacher currently in the process of being recommended to the California
Commission on Teaching Credentialing for the Preliminary Single Subject SB 2042 credential
with English Learner Authorization content embedded, | can think of few comparable moments
in my life with such abundant prospects for success.
My path to teaching English comes along a continuum of work focused on developing language
skills as a professional writer and editor. Following my time substitute teaching, volunteering as
an AVID mentor and a writing tutor for first generation college-bound adolescents, | was
accepted to Sonoma State University’s Single Subject Credential program. | am currently
completing my student teaching at Santa Rosa’s Elsie Allen High School. My daily duties include
planning, instruction, and assessment in Grade 11 Academic English, and English Language
Development for Newcomers; in addition to assistance with Grade 9 Academic Physical Science.
‘As an educator, | strive to foster literacy by offering an engaging interdisciplinary approach to
English instruction that guides students to proficiency in the CCSS and beyond. My experiences
reporting, living, and working in the Bay Area for over a decade have offered me a multicultural
perspective that will inspire students to become confident with their language skills and
integral members of their community. My experience working with English Learners and soci
economically impacted students has enriched my understanding of how to make content highly
accessible and meaningful to the lives of all young people.
lam excited to collaborate with other teachers in your school, implement the use of technology
effectively, and become involved with after school programs for students’ higher learning.
‘Thank you for considering me for employment in your English department. | can be reached by
