3.G.1.1. Students are able to identify and use map components.

Gardners MI: Visual Spatial


Activity: There will be a large photo of the school blown up and put on the
smartboard. Students will be given a worksheet with a variety of map components.
They will be put into groups, and have to cut out all of the components, and place
them where they belong on the picture.

3.G.2.1. Students are able to identify reasons people move and how it affects their
communities.
Gardners MI: Bodily-Kinesthetic
Activity: Students will each be given a new identity. This describes their income, job,
and family ties to their community. The teacher will read aloud an event happening
in that community and each student will have to decide whether or not they will
move from their community. Students choosing to move will go to section 1 in the
classroom, and students deciding to stay will go to section 2. Each student will have
to give reasons as to why they chose the way they did, and how they think it will
affect the community.

4.G.2.1. Students are able to describe how the resources of various regions and the
state of South Dakota affected the growth of each.
Gardners MI: Interpersonal
Activity: Students will work together in groups or pairs. Each group or pair will be
given a different region of South Dakota and will have to come up with the
resources and how it affected the growth of each of them. As a wrap up, groups will
all share with each other knowledge.
