Instructional Objectives:
Students will give examples of citizens rights.
Students will explain why citizens should carry out responsibilities.
Students will identify attributes of a contributing citizen.
Standards:
SS.K2.PSCL.1: Essential Concept and/or Skill: Understand the basic concepts of
government and democracy and that the Constitution defines the rights and
responsibilities of citizens.
Anticipatory Set:
-Discuss how we are citizens of Marquette and Bellevue.
Teacher Input:
-Talk about what it means to have a right to something.
-What are some things that you have a right to as a citizen?
-What are some responsibilities that you have as a citizen? Remember a
responsibility is something that you should do.
-Pull up a picture of a town with citizens serving their community in it. What are
these citizens doing for their community?
-How can we be good citizens in our community? What does this even
mean?
Closure:
-Act out the two scenes that are given as examples in the book. Ask the students if
these people are demonstration good citizenship.
Assessment:
-Whether or not the class is able to identify good characteristics of a good citizen.
