Workplaces of Tomorrow:

Future trends in technology would change the current notion of workplace out of the
window. This is debatable; but, it would definitely change the way people work in
physical environments.
In the manufacturing and factory environment, robotics is on the rise. Many of the
manufacturers are planning to implement robots at the factories. The imminent
improvement in artificial intelligence is likely to be a catalyst for this shift.
In banking industry, many feared that due to rise of technology, there wont be any
remains of brick and mortar branches. In the wake of disruptions from technology,
the customers have indeed handled most of their transactions from their mobile
phones or cash machines. But, many have visited banks to discuss and to be
consulted about the more complex transactions with bank representative. In future
this part would be covered by video conferencing with the customer in accordance
with the ever increasing regulations.
Similar trends could be seen in retail sector. The consumer would handle its service
through plethora of options: Mobiles, kiosks, self-checkout counters etc.; while staff
might give attention to most important issue: providing advice to the consumer.
In most of the physical workplaces, working inside single building would not entirely
give way to virtual workplaces as it was predicted. Offices would become meeting
places and places to share rapport with your colleagues instead.
This could indicate that the companies could cut the costs on the office spaces and
invest this money saved on better project that would reap higher returns. In the era of
Lean management this option would feel irresistible for managers.
There is some interest in the concept of Work hubs. These are small office hubs on
the periphery of the cities where local workers could drop in as demanded, or do
telepresence meeting, or just work for some hours.
