Media institutions that
might distribute our media
product and why.
By Yasmin Lyons and Daisy Stone* Twisted Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. would be the types
of media institutions who would distribute our film as they have
previously produced iconic horror films that have similar outlines. For
example, Twisted Pictures has produced the Saw film series, while Warner
Bros. produced The Conjuring. There is a difference between these two
institutions when it comes to the size of the corporation which reflects the
size of the media products produced. For example, Warner Bros. has its
own distribution sector while using synergy, e.g. to promote the
production as well as a music artist. In The Conjuring, ‘In the Room Where
You Sleep’ by Dead Man’s Bones was part of the film’s soundtrack, as a
deal with the music label ANTI. In contrast, Twisted Pictures uses synergy
but ona much smaller scale. For example, using soundtracks from foreign
music labels, which gives it more niche aspects.
* Our own media product ‘Indominus’ was inspired by The Conjuring. We
viewed the film as part of our media research and from this, gained more
of an understanding of horror film forms and conventions. As a result of
this, our physiological horror came from the proposition that you cannot
see the perpetrator in action. For example, in The Conjuring you don’t see
how the bruises are inflicted on the mother — in our film the mystery is
that the protagonist also the perpetrator however she is unaware of this.Both Twisted Pictures and Warner usually distribute their films across international
cinemas and, after, release them on DVD. Before this they promote their products
online, e.g. through social media, YouTube and certified film sites such as IMDb.
They promote by creating and releasing teaser-trailers and then full trailers. We
envision that ‘Indominus’ would be a major feature film debuting in cinemas
before being released on DVD. To further our distribution, we could create and sell
merchandise, including games and T-shirts, which would also promote
Mattie tinned
