    Aprilof2016.Ms.BarnesstartedinthefallsemesterasateachingassistantforherCurriculumand
    Methodscourse.Sarahwasworkinginamultiage2ndand3rdgradeclassroomwith24students,sixof
    whomhadawiderangeoflearningdisabilitiesfromADD,ADHD,developmentaldelays,andspeech
    impairments..

    Ms.Barneswasresponsibleforteachingnumerouslessonsinsmallgroups,buildingrelationshipswith
    students,andhelpingandassistinginanymanner.SarahtaughtSocialStudieslessons,heldweeklybook
    clubswithvaryingabilitylevels.Althoughmultiageteachingrequiresagreaterdegreeofdifferentiation
    toaddresstheacademicanddevelopmentalneedsofthestudents,Ms.Barnestookinitiativewithteaching
    EnglishLanguageArtsinaworkshopstyle.Sarahwentwellaboveandbeyondanyexpectationsand
    requirementsofherprogram!Ms.Barnescreatedlessonsandactivitiesthatwereconnectedtothereal
    world,engagingforstudents,andallowedforamplepracticeopportunities.

    Ms.Barnesisaphenomenalteacherwhowasconsistentlywellplanned,organized,andalwaysadjusted
    herlessontotheneedsofherstudents.Shedemonstratedcreativity,innovation,flexibility,andsought
    waystoextendthelearningofherstudentsthroughrealworldapplication.Sarahslessonswerewell
    thoughtoutandpresentedinavarietyofmodalitiestomeeteachstudentslearningneeds.Notonlywere
    Ms.BarnesslessonsthoroughandalignedtotheCommonCoreStandards,buttheyalsoencouraged
    studentengagementandfosteredsuccessforthem.

    ThroughouthertimeatZeelandQuest,Sarahhasalsodemonstratedagenuinecareandconcernforthe
    studentswithwhomsheworked.Shedemonstratedthisinmanyways,whetheritwastakingtimeherfirst
    weekjusttositandchatwithstudentswhiletheywereworkingoraskingthemhowtheirweekendwas,
    orwelcominganewstudentandhelpinghertoconnect.Itwasevidentthatthestudentsfeltsafe,valued,
    andloved.Ms.Barneswasasuperior,collaborativeteachingpartnerwhoconsistentlywentaboveand
    beyondtobuildadeeprapportwithparents,students,andhercoworkers.


    Itiswithouthesitation,andmypersonalopinion,thatSarahBarneswillbeanoutstandingadditiontoany
    schoolfaculty.Ms.Barneshasexhibitedadedicationtotheeducationfieldandherstudentswhile
    displayingexemplaryteachingabilitiesandoutstandingorganizationalskills.Sarahhasanexcitingand
    promisingfutureasaneducatorandshewillbeastrongassettoyourdistrict!
